Immigration in The 1980's

In 1980 the number of immigrants was 143,432 in 1981 was 128,735 in 1982 was 121,253 in 1985 was 270,000.  During the 1980's the Refugees Act of 1980 reduced the worldwide quota to 270,000 immigrants.  The Immigrants Reform and Control Act of 1986 allowed most illegal immigrants who have reside in the U.S. continuosly since janurary of 82 to apply for legal status and prohibits employers from hiring immigrants and there were penalties for violations. Women the  age of 18 - 44 had about 1/4 more children than American aged women. Boat people were refugees who fled from suotheastern asian countries to america.
